Research Interests

  • Social cognition, emotion recognition, emotional awareness, emotion regulation
  • Atypicalities in socio-emotional competencies in autism spectrum conditions
  • Development and validation of technology-based interventions targeting socio-emotional competencies (i.a. for autism therapy)

I am interested mainly in the effectiveness and the therapeutic potential of technology-based interventions for people with impairments in social and emotional competencies. Within my PhD project, I developed a tablet-based intervention (www.zirkus-empathico.de) fostering emotion awareness, emotion recognition and empathy and demonstrated its effectiveness in a rondomized-controlled trial with children in the autism spectrum. Currently, I focus on the development of robot-child interaction strategies within the joint BMBF funded project "ERIK“. The main goal is the enhancement of emotion awareness and regulation in children with autism using an emotion-sensitive robotic platform in therapeutic settings.
